Byron Buxton delivered one of the strongest seasons of his 11-year MLB career in 2025, finally staying healthy for most of the year with the Minnesota Twins. This is often a rare occurrence for the immensely talented yet injury-prone center fielder. As a result, trade rumors began to swirl around him, especially after the Twins parted ways with many of their star players during last year’s trade deadline.
Upon returning to spring training in Fort Myers, Florida, Buxton expressed his satisfaction in remaining a Twin past the winter. However, he is frustrated that the organization has not taken sufficient action to dismiss rumors surrounding a possible trade. He believes a simple public statement from the front office could have put these speculations to rest.

“All it takes is for somebody at the top to go to the media—‘We’re not trading you,’” Buxton said. “Trade rumors stop, and now we don’t have those conversations. That’s how simple this could get.”
Buxton signed a seven-year, $100 million extension with Minnesota, keeping him with the team until 2028. Notably, he has a complete no-trade clause, giving him significant control over his future if the Twins consider dealing him.
Byron Buxton Feels Disrespected By the Twins Front Office
During last year’s All-Star Game, Buxton made it clear that he wants to remain with the Minnesota Twins for his entire career. Hence, he feels a sense of disrespect from the organization for not issuing a statement to dispel trade rumors, especially given his long-standing commitment to the team.

“If you know me and you know who I am, I don’t like my name being blasted around all the time,” Buxton stated. “To have your name blasted, and you know where we want to be, you know what we’re trying to work toward, it’s different.”
Selected as the second overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, Buxton showcased almost his full potential last season by achieving a 4.9 bWAR over 126 games. He recorded an OPS of 136, set personal bests with 35 home runs and 83 RBIs, and earned a Silver Slugger award in the process.
