Former Virginia Star Jahmal Edrine Caught in Serious Legal Trouble: Arrested for Rape and Abduction

    Cavalier Connection Podcast
Jahmal Edrine, a former wide receiver for the University of Virginia, was arrested recently and faces serious charges of rape and abduction. This follows a thorough investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department lasting several months.

The inquiry commenced on August 25 after a report of sexual assault was made. The victim described the incident occurring the prior day, prompting police to present the case to a grand jury which handed down indictments on February 2. Edrine was taken into custody Thursday and is currently held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, facing felony charges. The police are continuing their investigation into this troubling case.

The University of Virginia has acknowledged the situation and has confirmed that Edrine is no longer enrolled. Brian Coy, the university’s chief communications officer, stated that the institution will cooperate fully with law enforcement while adhering to federal privacy laws that limit further public comments.

Edrine, just 22 years old, transferred to Virginia from Purdue ahead of the 2025 season and quickly became one of the team’s key offensive players. He ended the season as the team’s second-leading receiver, compiling 46 catches for 564 yards and scoring one touchdown. Virginia recorded a program-best 11 wins before falling in overtime to Duke in the ACC Championship Game.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 221 pounds, Edrine hails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He previously played at Florida Atlantic University from 2021 to 2022 before transferring to Purdue, where he was part of the team during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Regrettably, he missed the 2023 season due to a season-ending injury sustained during training camp. Over his college career at Florida Atlantic and Purdue, he accumulated 63 receptions before his time at Virginia.
