The New York Giants have undeniably begun to tap into their potential with Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo receiving increased playtime. However, the season-ending injury to Malik Nabers has significantly hindered the team’s offensive capabilities. With Skattebo also sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Giants face the pressing challenge of replacing one of their most dynamic playmakers.
In light of these setbacks, Giants’ general manager Joe Schoen is actively seeking roster enhancements. Recently, he evaluated 12 players, including notable former Pro Bowl wide receiver Diontae Johnson. Johnson, though a recognized talent, has struggled to make an impact since2019, when he posted an impressive 717 receiving yards. His peak performance came in 2021, when he amassed a career-best 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns, yet his production has declined significantly, hitting only 375 yards last season and not appearing in any games thus far this year.
Interestingly, the Giants also brought in quarterback Jaren Hall during this workout, perhaps ensuring Johnson had a competent passer available to connect with. The reasons behind this scouting effort remain to be seen—whether it’s a precautionary tactic or an indicator of impending changes is uncertain.
In addition to evaluating potential additions, the Giants have officially placed Skattebo on season-ending injured reserve, paving the way for cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse, a recent waiver acquisition from the Browns, to take his roster spot. Despite these personnel adjustments, it appears the Giants still view the necessity for further offensive reinforcements, which could lead to trade discussions in the near future.
As the season progresses, the Giants face a crucial time to bolster their roster and maintain competitiveness. The coming weeks will reveal whether they can successfully acquire the talent needed to navigate these injuries and enhance their offensive performance.
