Cristopher Sanchez delivered an impressive performance in the 2025 season for the Philadelphia Phillies. The left-handed pitcher finished as the runner-up for the National League Cy Young Award, clearly establishing himself as a pivotal player. With such a spectacular season under his belt, he was the logical choice to take the mound as the Opening Day starter for the Phillies.
In a significant move, the Philadelphia Phillies have signed Cristopher Sanchez to a six-year, $107 million contract extension, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. This arrangement covers his salary for the 2026 season and secures Sanchez’s position with the team through 2032, along with a club option for 2033.
“On Sunday, the Phillies restructured the contract and rewarded Sanchez accordingly. He agreed to a new six-year deal that guarantees him $107 million, per a league source,” Gelb reported.

“Sanchez was previously under contract through 2028 with reasonable team options for 2029 and 2030. Now, at 29 years old, he is guaranteed a contract through 2032, with the Phillies holding a club option for 2033. The $107 million also encompasses the $3.5 million Sanchez was scheduled to earn in 2026.”
This news has taken many by surprise, given that Sanchez is currently in the second year of a four-year, $22.5 million contract signed in 2024. With two club options tied to it, the Phillies could have kept him for a total of just $47 million over the next five years.
