The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani has once again made history, this time with the record-breaking sale of one of his jerseys.
Major League Baseball (MLB) reports that the jersey Ohtani wore during the World Baseball Classic auctioned for an astonishing $1,500,010. This figure shatters the previous record he set with a Dodgers jersey that sold for $249,999. The earlier jersey bore the inscription “’24 NL MVP” in Ohtani’s own handwriting.
ESPN highlights that the auction lasted seven days and attracted a total of 298 bids, showcasing the fervor of collectors eager to own this iconic piece. This latest auction exceeded the previous sales price of Ohtani’s 2023 WBC jersey, which fetched $126,110.
Representing Japan in this year’s World Baseball Classic, Ohtani delivered a standout performance. In a commanding victory over Chinese Taipei, he recorded three hits, driving in five RBIs and scoring once, including a Grand Slam during the second inning in a 13-0 rout.
Japan’s journey in the World Baseball Classic concluded in the quarterfinals, where they were edged out by the eventual champions, Venezuela, with an 8-5 scoreline.
Ohtani’s auction items have consistently sparked intense bidding wars, thanks to his impressive on-field accomplishments. His 50th home run ball in 2024 sold for an astounding $4.39 million, purchased by Taiwanese investment firm UC Capital. This ball represents a historic milestone, as Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to achieve a 50-50 season—hitting 50 home runs and stealing 50 bases in the same season.
Beyond that, his 2025 Topps Chrome MVP Award Gold MLB Logoman card sold for $3 million at auction, while a dual MVP Gold Logoman card featuring both Ohtani and Aaron Judge went for $2.16 million.
