Megan ended their roughly year-long relationship in April, saying at the time that “trust, fidelity and respect” were non-negotiable after reports of alleged infidelity.
Now, in a recent interview with InStyle, the Grammy-winning rapper described the aftermath as “very rough” and said she realized she had been trying too hard to make a relationship work at the expense of herself.
“I was losing myself a little bit,” Megan said. “I am now in the space of finding me again.”
She also made it clear that her career and independence aren’t going anywhere for whoever comes next.
“I cannot be disrespected,” she said, adding later, “I will not be behind any man. I will have a partner. I will be equals with my partner.”
Megan said she wants someone who understands that she loves working, making music and interacting with fans and has no interest in shrinking herself to fit someone else’s life.
Thompson, meanwhile, has not publicly addressed Megan’s latest comments.
The five-time NBA All-Star and four-time champion spent last season with the Mavericks before being traded to the Heat during the offseason.
